Description
Summary
Physician Assistant MOD provides essential services to veterans and the FNCVAH facility. MOD coordinates transfers in and out of the facility including inpatient units and emergency room. MOD also coordinates bed assignments in the facility from outside hospitals and in the facility. Further MOD acts as signer for all orders for veterans discharging from outside hospital to include PT/OT/DME orders.

- Obligations/Responsibilities: Attends required staff meetings - communicates up and down the chain of command - and helps prepare heads-up and issue briefs related to adverse patient outcomes

- Clinical Management: Maintains involvement in matters concerning patient movement tracking - clinical productivity - relevant performance measures - Quality and Patient Safety oversight - as well as process improvements (system redesigns)

- Clinical Duties: 85-100% The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in medical services
- The exact privileges and procedures for a particular provider will be approved by the Professional Standards Board
- All practitioners must meet the followingqualifications: i
- Patient Care: The incumbent actively engages in communication with other facilities regarding the potential to transfer patients to and/or from our facility
- Actively participates in the management - clinical assessment - and order writing for patients being considered for movement to and/or from our facility and works with the Clinical Operations Center (COC) Chief - Clinical Operations Center (COC) Coordinator - Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) to ensure safe and appropriate patient movement between facilities
- Actively engages in communication with nursing - physicians - pharmacy - and other members of the Interdisciplinary Team Rounds to facilitate patient movement between units (emergency - medical - surgical - psychiatric - Community Living Center - etc.) internally.Additionally - the incumbent actively engages with the Clinical Operations Center Chief (COC) to maintain accurate and timely knowledge of veteran status when admitted to facilities other than our own and participates in the ongoing assessment of said veterans for timely transfer to our facility
- Practitioners are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate - appropriate - and effective for the promotion of health - prevention of illness - treatment of disease - and care at the end of life
- Tasks also include indirect patient care: open encounters and open consult maintenance - CPRS documentation requirements - and monitoring of clinic management

- Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Practitioners are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical - clinical and social sciences - and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others

- Clinical Judgment: To ensure practice-based learning and improvement - practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate - evaluate - and improve patient care

- If the incumbent is involved in research - they will show an ability to work with the physician to identify and define significant Research and Development problems - to plan and execute a precise research program - and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication

- SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The practitioner is accountable to the Clinical Operations Center Chief (COCC)and is responsible for providing the most effective delivery of patient care while meeting and exceeding compliance standards
- The physician assistant will ensure operations and compliance with VHA guidelines for Medical Service
- Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 3:30 pm - 11:00 pm Compressed/Flexible: Not Available Telework: Ad Hoc Virtual: This is not a virtual position
- Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not required Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP) - which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements - loan repayments - sign-on bonus contracts - Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years)
